FAQs

How does the BMW plug-in hybrid work?

The BMW 2 Series PHEV, the plug-in hybrid range, is a practical and efficient vehicle that is powered by a combination of both a fuel and electric engine. The dual-drivetrain system works with both of these engines for reduced emissions and savings on fuel without having a limited range that some electric vehicles can experience.

Does the BMW plug-in hybrid charge itself?

As the name suggests, a plug-in hybrid is charged from a socket or charging point. While there'll be some charge generated from coasting and regenerative braking, this won't be used for producing a full charge of battery or for full journeys – it will just top it up slightly or slow the battery’s charge dropping as much.

How long will a PHEV battery last?

The BMW 2 Series PHEV range is around 49 miles, however, if your journey is longer than 49 miles, the 3-cylinder petrol engine will work alongside the eDrive electric motor to get you where you need to be. While having a hybrid can be economical both on fuel and your wallet, if the battery isn’t always topped up, the extra weight of the batteries over a standard petrol or diesel car often means the engine is working harder when there's no charge left.

It can take your battery under 8 hours to be fully charged.
